Filming Sam Korn on our final set @ the Vodka Bar Darwin, Australia |
We have, of course just recently finished our very last filming sessions, the final big one with the crew on set at Darwin's popular Vodka Bar venue and two re-take sessions with Sam Korn, one at the Stokes hill wharf and one back out at Lee Point beach where we started Day 1 of filming about 7 weeks ago.
There have been noticeable benefits from 'lessons learned' over the period we have been filming. All that practice has resulted in some really sweet footage straight from the camera with minimal takes, we found our ability to judge the settings for various conditions came pretty much naturally the last few sessions.
The low light in the Vodka Bar scene was my main concern, which, incidentally was an unfounded one. Simply bumping up the ISO and de-noising the clip in post has returned some surprisingly good results. Subconsciously being in stills mode with my 7D I cringe to think of ISO figures as high as 2000 and don't relate them with quality imagery, NeatVideo's magic little plugin however was my saviour, even with the most basic settings I was amazed at just how much noise reduction we achieved, definitely a tool for any serious DSLR motion projects.
The next week-and-a-bit will now be spent editing and rendering and re-editing till we have our final cut ready to distribute. Due out for its first competition submission before October 14 2011.
